RESTORED ANTIQUE VICTORIAN C1882 CAST IRON FIREPLACE FIRE SURROUND RECLAIMED. Exquisite, for sale is this beautiful, restored antique cast iron fireplace, from a Manchester period property from the late Victorian period.
It is a wonderful example of British architectural heritage which would typically have taken pride of place in a downstairs room or bedroom. Generously proportioned, it is made of solid cast iron in lovely condition. The ironwork is rich with bird and floral detail and a beautiful floral panel down the legs. Similar decorative ironwork continues around the body, which is richly contoured and finished off with a stunning ornate canopy.
During restoration we retained the original back fire stone, and we have replaced the two side stones. The grate and bars are original. The final result looks superb.
It has discreet mounting lugs on the top of the body for simple and safe installation with a couple of strong screws. We have finished the item with black grate polish which gives it a gunmetal appearance and highlights the ornamentation of the cast iron. 106cm high (bottom to top of mantle). In order to fit into your chimney breast the hole in your wall needs to be at least 40cm wide, 60cm high and 15cm deep. All restoration has been undertaken by Duncan Reddy Manchester, a Specialist in Architectural salvage for over 35 years. There are a couple of old repairs on the back of the fireplace (invisible from the front) these are still very secure and will not affect having an open fire in the future.
