Antique Victorian Regency Baroque Cast Iron Doorstop Quirky Dolphin Koi Fish 4kg

A Victorian /19th Century style cast iron door stop in a form of a fish. This type of fish motif is sometimes described as a dolphin or a koi carp. The motif originates in the Far East and began to appear in North American / European / British decorative arts in the 18th century and remained popular through the 19th century and in to the early 20th century. It is very well made with great detail.

The metal has a black finish with some surface blemishes. The bottom of the doorstop has some superficial rust. The item is in very good condition for the age.

Stands about 41 cm tall. 24cm wide and 10 cm deep at the base.
